Coming to Payson Early Next Year

The much anticipated hybrid version of the new Chrysler Pacifica minivan has made its way to the shores of America and will soon be available for purchase at Chapman Payson. The Pacifica is the minivan that replaced the flagship Town and Country in the Chrysler lineup, offering a more modern look, improved fuel efficiency and more standard features. Chrysler says the plug-in hybrid is estimated to get 80 mpgE with the ability to go 30 miles before needing a charge. A 16.0 kWh lithium-ion battery pack sits under the second row of seats, in place of the Stow n’ Go feature that lets the seats disappear into the floor.

Pentastar Engine Gets Some Upgrades

The familiar 3.6L V6 Pentastar engine that seems to be in almost every Chrysler product also powers the hybrid Pacifica, but it has some updates. New camshafts, pistons and an innovative combustion cycle improves gas mileage. A compact transaxle helps recapture energy when braking or coasting and regulates the torque coming from the twin electric engines. The result of all these mechanics is a seamless integration between gas and electric power that makes for a pleasant driving experience.

Car and Driver Takes Test Run

The editors at Car and Driver magazine got their hands on a new Pacifica Hybrid and took a test run through Santa Monica and into the mountains near the ocean. “On undulating mountain roads, the hybrid powertrain felt capable and never overtaxed,” they wrote, “even on long uphill grades. Regenerating as we coasted back down, we were able to coax seven additional miles of electric-only cruising for our trip home.” The editors were impressed with the Pacifica’s acceleration and handling, as well as the smooth ride. The hybrid Pacifica weighs about 600 pounds more than the gasoline model. Chrysler accounted for the weight gain by increasing spring rates. “This minivan is easy to maneuver around town and requires few corrections to keep tracking straight on the highway,” according to Car and Driver.

Available in Premium and Platinum Trim

When the hybrid Chrysler Pacifica makes its way to Chapman Payson, it will only be in the Premium and Platinum trim packages. Premium features heated leather first row seats, second row captains chairs and power hatch. The Platinum model adds navigation, power sliding doors and a DVD entertainment center for the back two rows. The hybrid Pacifica does qualify for a federal tax credit and may qualify for state and local credits. Consult your tax advisor to get all the facts.

7th in a Row for Iconic Off-roader

When the auto industry gets together for the gigantic SEMA show in Las Vegas, you can expect a lot of surprises. Everyone from giant automakers to small specialty shops compete to see who can create the most unusual, interesting and futuristic vehicles. What shouldn’t come as a surprise is when the Jeep Wrangler is named the “Hottest 4×4-SUV” at the show, as this is the 7th consecutive year for that honor. “The SEMA show and SEMA members play a critical role in identifying the hottest trends and rides in the vehicle customization industry, which is why winning a SEMA Award represents an important recognition for our company,” according to Mopar parts director Pietro Gorlier. “Enthusiasts customize vehicles they love and feel passionate about, and we at Mopar are lucky to have such a great portfolio of vehicles within the FCA umbrella. FCA vehicles are the perfect canvas for our accessories and performance parts.”

Modified Wranglers Steal the Show

The Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited were two of the most modified models at the SEMA show, featuring everything from high lift kits and enormous tires to special body paint and standard Mopar accessories. Stop by the parts department at Chapman Payson and you can see why the Jeep Wrangler remains the most modified Mopar vehicle. For 2016, Jeep customers spent an average of $800 on genuine Mopar accessories to dress up their Jeep or make it more of an off-road beast. As the perfect vehicle for exploring the Rim and countryside around Payson, the Wrangler is also a great choice for everyday commutes. “Given the vehicle’s versatility as a daily driver and for off-road use, it comes as no surprise that the Jeep remains so popular among the automotive community,” said SEMA president Chris Kersting.
